This predominantly rural space offers residents a taste of country living with easy access to city fare.  It is centrally located for those who commute to Fredericksburg, Richmond or Washington, D.C.

The Army’s Fort A.P. Hill is spread throughout 76,000 acres of the county.

Carline County has been part of some outstanding moments in history:

Abraham Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth was killed while hiding in a barn on a farm near Port Royal.

Camp A.P. Hill was established in the summer of 1941 as part of the Army’s effort to mobilize for World War II.  Today, Fort A.P. Hill is a premiere training facility used by units from around the world.  It also hosts the National Scout Jamboree every 4 years and has done so since 1981.
